it's a general guideline to follow *only after we actually decide* it's
what we want to do.

They look fine to me, I don't think that's necessary because force-pushing
is a huge pain to ensure everyone is properly synced...if they're that
seriously broken, please revert them instead of force pushing, though just
pushing whatever commits are necessary to fix them is preferred.
