The problem was that the maillist machine had acquired a second global scoped
IPv6 address - no idea why, it is not configured to do so. This address did not
have a reverse lookup name - this is what google, I think, was (reasonably)
objecting to.

I quickly scanned some log files but I'm not going to bother to find out where/why
this extra address came from. I will if it happens again.

The test mail has gone with out problems, other than usual grey listing, etc.
