yesterday night did some research into verilator, it is pretty straightforward.

today i got the microwatt vhdl bram signals extended down to the top level when doing "make microwatt-verilator" and used them to do "printf"s in the main verilator loop, whenever bram is read or written.

next task is to switch off file reading inside the VHDL itself and have the c++ verilator loop perform file read/write.

that will raise the limit on what size of binary files can be run by microwatt, and i can try booting linux.
