although it was many years ago, we do need to bear in mind that, like
an archaeological dig has to recreate a picture by guessing what was
going on from glimpses of the past, we know that VSX was designed for
video, audio and 3D [of its era].
consequently with a bit of thought, we will find the occasional
resonance and justification as to why a particular instruction exists.
nobody adds opcodes to an ISA without a damn good reason, it's just too costly.
